LAKE CITY HISTORY

The Lake City Church of God by Faith, Inc., began in 1997 when the Lord moved upon Elder Jackie Reynolds, Sr. and his wife to begin an outreach ministry in Lake City, Florida.  Pastor Reynolds continued to maintain his local pastorate at Jones Temple COGBF in Newberry, Florida.  He relinquished the outreach ministry in Lake City to Minister Joseph Dix in November 1998.

Minister Joseph Dix began visiting homes, meeting people and ministering to all whom would listen. He began holding Bible study meetings in homes.  Often, Minister Wilford Baker would accompany him on the mission. Brother John Reid was the first convert.

In October 1998, Minister Dix rented the present building to carry on God's work.  The first regular service was held in December 1998, when the Church of God by Faith Supreme Council assigned Pastor Joseph Dix to the Lake City Mission Church of God by Faith.  In attendance for the first Sunday was Minister Joseph Dix, his wife, Sister Gertrude Dix, his daughter, Sister Janice Sorinmade, Mother Gwendolyn Chapman, Deaconess Dorothy Grim mage, Sister Fannie Riggins, Brother Joe Riggins, and Sister Yvonne Filer.

Since then, the Mission has grown. Thanks be to God, the people had a mind to work.  God gave Pastor Dix a vision and new goals.  On July 23, 2001 Pastor Dix purchased property in excess of three acres to build a church for the Mission.

Outreach ministries were added to the Mission between 2001 and 2004, to include:

•    An adult center in Branford, FL (now closed)
•     Surrey Place Healthcare Center- Live Oak, FL (each 4th Sunday, 4-5pm)
•     Suwannee Healthcare Center- Live Oak, FL (each 4th Sunday, 3-4pm)
•     Baya Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lake City, FL (2nd & 3rd Sunday, 3 pm)
•    Midday prayer and Bible study (each Tuesday)
•     An annual food give-away (November)
•     Clothes Closet

The members of the Lake City Mission have goals to continue growing daily in the name of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

As of December 2015, the church in Lake City is no longer a Mission. It is now able to support itself without the aid of the Gainesville District and National Organization.
